SUMMER TIME Gifted, Talented and Busy!

This year Connect 5 ran its first Summer School  for Gifted and Talented students.  The summer school programme, based at Swanlea School, ran for two weeks at the beginning of the summer holidays and included a three day residential in Sussex, as well as trips to St. Albans and the Museum of London.

The three strands of the summer school programme were the environment, classical civilisation including an introduction to Latin and the History of London.

Thirty students were enrolled from both primary and secondary schools, the Connect 5 secondary schools which took part were Oaklands, Raines Foundation and Swanlea. Grahame Price, co-ordinator of the project was very pleased with the way that it went, 'It was great seeing primary and secondary school students working so well together, I was also very pleased with the students from year 11 and Year 13 who helped to staff the summer school, their input was invaluable.'

In September the students on the Summer school were reunited for a presentation event with parents and carers present.  We had set the students research tasks to do over the holidays and this was their opportunity to explain their findings Grahame explained, 'The quality of the work was astounding and a number of students achieved special awards for their hard work.'
