Year 9 students at Swanlea School have just embarked on a three year programme of study leading to GCSE Latin.  The course, run by Ms. Drury, has already fired the imagination of those taking part.  'Students are incredibly interested in Roman civilisation as well as the roots of English that can readily be found in Latin,' Ms. Drury explained.

Ms. Drury got the idea for a twilight Latin class after teaching on the Gifted and Talented Summer School  'When we did the Latin unit during the summer I was really impressed by the enthusiasm and interest of the students.'  By offering this opportunity Ms. Drury hopes to break down the idea that Latin is a dead language.  This is one of a number of accredited courses being offered to students at Swanlea, other GCSE's on offer, after school, are Religious Education, Sociology and a new GNVQ course in Information Technology.
